Our second annual Round Top Inn-dependence Day Jamboree brought the whole town together to celebrate our country and our community. What a day we had!  The Compound’s dazzlingly beautiful grounds and barns were the perfect venue for family fun. Shade trees and picnic tables made us comfortable in the July heat while the air conditioning in the gorgeous Peck Barn kept our pies cool and calm as they waited for judging.

The Compound and Prost crews prepped three softball fields, complete with umbrella’d dugouts, and all three buzzed with competitive adult games and wiffle ball for the kids. Thanks to everyone who competed and those who cheered them on, and congrats to the winning team, The Benchwarmers!

Our shady Hydration Station saw plenty of action, as did the Prost Wine and Beer Bar. All bar proceeds went to the Round Top/Warrenton Volunteer Firefighters. We thank them for all they do! Tunes, mascot Tucker and lots of tossing the ball around added to the day’s party atmosphere.

As you probably heard if you were there, one of our food trucks made it all the way from Houston to the 237 turn-off before breaking a fan belt. Thanks to Caley and Sarah from Cousins Maine Lobster Houston and our snack bar from James Coney Island and our emergency pizzas for filling in the gap.

With our new sponsor Imperial Sugar on board, this year’s All-American Apple Pie Contest prize package included a year’s worth of sugar. Our expert judging panel of Katie Stavinoha, Tara Royer and Jacquelyn Ditsler had the enviable job of tasting 14 amazing pies. Their ratings of taste and presentation were carefully tabulated, and congratulations go to Grand Prize Winner Linda Youens. Forks up to all of our amazing bakers!

The evening finished with our outstanding Freedom Fireworks Display and a few final beverages by flashlight before we all headed home to rest up for the Round Top parade.

We so appreciate everyone’s support for our entire firefighter fundraiser Jamboree 2016. It’s not too early to start pinning pie recipes, working on your softball skills and inviting your friends and family to join in the fun for next year. See y’all then!
